Union Pacific 844 - Rare Miles & Familiar RailsFor the last leg of the extensive 150th anniversary tour in 2012, UP #844 traveled some very rare miles on the way home to Cheyenne. Starting in Texas, #844 utilized BNSF trackage rights on the Twin Peaks and Spanish Peaks subdivisions. Known as the Trinchera Pass line, this route hadn't seen a steam locomotive since regular service ended in the 1950's. You'll see #844 on this remote and rarely seen line as she travels from Texline, TX to Walsenburg, CO on November 4th. A few days later, we would follow #844 from Pueblo, CO to Denver, CO on the Joint Line. In 2013 #844 operated only 2 trips, staying close to home on familiar rails. On June 10th, she left Cheyenne, WY bound for Omaha and display at the College Baseball World Series. Dubbed the "UP Home Plate Special," this program covers the first day of the trip as she traveled east to North Platte, NE on the Sidney subdivision. This was the first trip of the year after winter maintenance, and #844 performed flawlessly. Finally we'll look at the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Train in late July. #844 once again handled the 23-car train, taking passengers from Denver to Cheyenne for the opening day of the legendary Frontier Days Rodeo. In addition to Saturday's train, you'll see the positioning moves on Thursday and Sunday. #844 was without her characteristic red Mars light on these trips, giving her a slightly different appearance. Filmed entirely in HD, this program features high speed running and great stack talk amidst western scenery. This program has minimal narration (with the option to turn it on or off) and no distracting music. | |
In addition to the standard widescreen DVD, this program is also available on HD Blu-ray disc. Running Time: 84 minutes Standard Definition DVD $20.00 High Definition Blu-ray $25.00 *note you must have a Blu-ray compatible player to watch Blu-ray discs
